old men in coffee shops

are keeping it real.

they come to coffee shops to philosophize, drink coffee, and read the paper.

not like all us lame-o new school kids who pop out our computers and don't socialize.

whoa science.

in 5 days i'm heading up to portland for mini-bike winter. i can't contain how ultra stoked i am about returning to that dreary, gray, rainy and ultimately rad part of the northwest. in preparation for chilly pdx i took apart my old, gnarly smittens from sweetpea and reconstructed a sturdier pair for. check it out:

i think they look mighty fine.

today i'm studying SCIENCE all day and into the night. this lovely pdx vacation unfortunately fell right in the middle of my final (cross your fingers) cumulative exam required for my ph.d. thus, i will be a scientific article digesting monster for the next 60 hours so i can leave santa cruz without being guilty.

whenever i get depressed about my current agenda (today is SATURDAY, and it's 75 degrees with CRYSTAL CLEAR skies. goddamn california, doesn't it recognize that it's winter. hey california, are you TOO GOOD for seasons!?! ) i just smile and think about last minibikewinter, where i met all my best portland pals and made out with adorable canadians... mmm canadians...

we're heading up there with a sizable (well, 5 person) crew of santa cruzians. it will be fun to represent from the southwestern coast. maybe repping the weather will get some of those silly oregonians to come visit. visiting me is like a luxury vacation! that'd be my tag line.

plus, we've got bike polo:

and PBR, it's just like home!

anyhow, i should get back to the massive quantities of SCIENCE that lie in front of me.

love,
kelly
