goodbye dreads

last night i had the sudden realization that i no longer wanted these big silly dreads on my head. i pulled out all my beads, and prepared for freedom! after our easter egg hunt this morning erin (my housemate) sat me down in the sunny lawn and chopped each one off. it took about an hour in the shower to tease and pick out the dready ends, but i finally finished and now i am a new short-haired lady. i feel like my head is floating because it's so light without long locks. here are some fun pictures.

enter...thesis

so, i started my thesis this friday. i hope you are all proud of me. it's due in 24 days, which is too scary to think about, and i am intensely behind. however, i have found that the work really isn't that painful. i kind of actual enjoy reading the articles (gasp!). it's a little nauseating to say, but it's true. makes me think that graduate school in chemistry wouldn't be a total living hell. anyhow, i just sit under my loft on my fouton couch and type away and read away the day. sometimes my butt goes numb from all the sitting, so i do funny little things like wandering up and down our stairs trying to read and stay on track until all the pins and needles are gone. however, i have found an even better replacement for the boredom. POI!

read on only if poi talk doesn't bore you:

the weather is finally nice and i have a lovely yard to spin in. it's funny to 'train' again. i guess i usually just play, but now i have goals and they require that i am able to complete all of my moves on any side from any direction. for example. i discovered that i can only do the 5-beat corkscrew and 5-beat windmill one direction. it's totally bothersome because i can't turn into either of those moves without the 50/50 chance of screwing it up if it's on the wrong side. yeah, so let the beating begin. i have been spinning exclusively with the new poi lebn made for me (which consist of 10 yards of 2 inch wick weaved lanyarn style, they are beautiful but very different from my old poi that are made from only 3 yards of wick), and let me tell ya they HURT when they hit you. i had a really nice face shot today that stung for about 10 minutes afterwards.

anyhow, here is my conquest of the day:

i have the 3-beat behind the back weave pretty solid both forwards and backwards, however, now i really want to link them so i can make full circle turns behind the back (crazy i know). so, i discovered that now i only have a forward to backwards turn on the left side. i worked forwards to backwards turn on the right side for about 20 minutes. i figured it out, but it is still really shaky. after that i worked on the backwards to forwards turn. i got a few and after that i actually linked 2 FULL CIRCLE TURNS!!! hoorah yippee.

it was fabulous.

yup. back to thesis. more poi updates to come i'm sure

with thesis comes poi

hopefully i will be able to take more positive poi breaks in the next few weeks to come. for all who are interested i will keep the poi updates coming. for all of you who aren't...well...deal with it. maybe i will put warnings on all the concentrated poi posts.

i should be more gloomy, but i am just to happy. weird.
